Chandelier Saxe
Typical of the eighteenth century, this model is particularly sumptuous due to the number and quality of the pendants of which it is covered.
Composed of a gilded bronze base with a central drum that repeats the shape of the daggers, this chandelier has sixteen light arms, spread over two small trays along the central drum.
The arms, embellished with chiselled vegetal motifs, take the form of those of the chandelier of Giovanni Battista Metellino at the Château de Maisons Laffitte (dating back to 1725).
Two ornamental floors surmount the arms, decorated for the first of golden bronze daggers and for the second of rosette and pear-shaped crystal buds. These are replicated throughout the body of the chandelier, without adding to the whole thanks to the transparency effects.
A crystal globe, suspended from the central drum, completes the ensemble.
Achille Fould will take back this type of chandelier for the apartments of Napoleon III at the Louvre.
